TEMA
O Yom Kipur é uma festividade muito profunda, a ponto de levar às sinagogas pessoas que se consideram não-religiosas inclusive. Mas o motivo de se fazer um jejum tão intenso, com rezas durante todo dia e o sentido de penitência não estão explicados no texto bíblico. Para compreender melhor de onde surgiu um rito tão fortemente marcado pela penitência é preciso recorrer à "para-bíblia", isto é, textos que não foram canonizados no século II EC como os que temos na Bíblia, mas que fazem parte da Biblioteca Hebraica. Vamos falar melhor sobre isso.

Torá |תורה| é a coleção do texto bíblico formada pelos Cinco Livros de Moisés ou Pentateuco. Quer dizer “ensinamento”, embora muitas vezes a palavra seja traduzida por “lei”. Também usamos esta palavra para designar todo um campo de coisas afins, que vão desde o mais concreto ao mais abstrato, por exemplo: usamos Torá quando nos referimos a toda a Bíblia Hebraica, ou ainda como indicação de um caminho de conduta, de entendimento da vida que está pautado por valores ancestrais aprendidos nos nossos textos e ritos.
Tudo isso, e muito mais, é Torá.
